Dental Exams and Oral Cancer Screenings

During your routine visit, your dentist will perform a dental exam to look for the presence of issues like decay, cracked or broken teeth, tissue color and health, signs of oral cancer (see more details on oral cancer screenings below) or other areas that need treatment. The dentist will use a combination of X-rays and expertise to determine your specific treatment needs. Both your dentist and dental hygienist use magnification to inspect all areas of the mouth.
Oral Cancer screenings are performed at routine dental exams to determine the presence of cancerous or precancerous lesions. The dentist and dental hygienist will diligently look for abnormal signs or symptoms that correlate with oral cancer. It is important to diagnose oral cancer in the earliest stages to ensure the best prognosis.
